Romain Jerome Creates Limited Edition 'Super Mario Bros.' Watch, Sells for Almost $19,000 [PHOTO]

Nintendo fans will be excited to get their hands on a limited edition "Super Mario Bros." watch, created by the luxury watchmaker Romain Jerome. The special timepiece is in celebration of the iconic game's 30th anniversary this year. The $18,950 price tag may be too steep for most people, but for Mario enthusiasts, the watch is a cool commemorative piece.

According to Engadget, the watch's casing is made out of black titanium, with a thickness of 46mm. The dial incorporates a unique three-layer technique, meant to create a three-dimensional illusion. The face is decorated with enamel-coated figurines, reminding its wearer of Mario's early days. There's the jumping Mario, the signature cloud, mushroom, and bush in pixel-like designs. They do not move, but the watch's sophistication comes with its static and classic simplicity.

A Blog to Watch reports that the piece runs on a mechanical RJ001-A automatic movement and operates at 4Hz, with a 42-hour power reserve.

Romain Jerome is a renowned Swiss watchmaker, famous for the exclusive Moon Dust watch and the Titanic watch collection. The new "Super Mario Bros." watch is the third of its video game-themed collection. The first featured "Space Invader" in 2011, and then it released the "PAC-MAN" watch in 2012.

Reportedly, Romain Jerome's CEO Manuel Emch has spent years trying to secure Nintendo's approval for a Mario watch. Now, the timepiece will by timely launched for the game's three-decade benchmark. There will only be 85 pieces available for sale, in reference to "Super Mario Bros." launch in 1985. It will reportedly be available in the market before the year ends.

The adorable plumber, with his signature mustache, jumpsuit and hat, first appeared in Nintendo's "Donkey Kong" back in 1981, but got his solo game in 1985 with "Super Mario Bros." Created by Shigeru Miyamoto, the game has since been integral in the history of video games. Mario and his brother Luigi's plumbing adventures have been deeply embedded in this generation's pop culture, thanks to three decades of fun and entertainment.
