Facebook Extends Parental Leave Policy Worldwide

Good news just in time for the Holidays!

The giant social networking, Facebook, announced that they are extending their parental leave policy to their employees in the different parts of the world. The policy offers four months paid leave to new parents worldwide.

The policy comes after Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to take two months leave after the birth of his daughter. Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook post that he has decided to take 2 months of paternity leave when his daughter arrives.

The current Facebook policy is only applicable to some new parents in the United States of America. However, the policy has been amended giving an opportunity to new parents not only in the US to enjoy four months off with pay.

Any employee who works full time, regardless of race and gender can avail the paid leave vacation. The policy was confirmed after Facebook's head of human resources; Lori Matloff announces in a Facebook post the expanded benefits that new parents can avail.

Facebook has an estimated total of 12,000 employees. Thousands of them are based at the Facebook headquarters located in Palo Alto, California. Some of them are based in far flung areas like Dublin, Dubai, and Delhi.

Facebook is the most recent major tech company that has expanded their parental leave policy worldwide. Amazon has also implemented its first parental leave policy for parents following Netflix's announcement of its unlimited leave policy.

According to Mashable, Zuckerberg considered that Facebook policy a good way to make new fathers feel comfortable while they are working in his company. And now that comfort does not only ripple in the US but also to the other parts of the world. The leave benefits will be applied in the beginning of January 2016.

With the expansion of paid parental leave for all employees, Facebook will be building a positive image in all users and employees. The new policy will help Facebook to become more competitive in retaining top talents in a competitive market.
