'Switched At Birth Season 5' Spoilers: A Million Ideas for the Finale, Producer Lizzy Weiss; China and the 10-Month Time Jump

Season 4 of 'Switched at Birth' ended with Bay's (Vanessa Marano) and Daphne's (Katie Leclerc) decision to have a trip to China. As season 5 airing looms near, the show will be having a 10-month jump, which means that the events in China will soon be revealed, not just yet though.

Bay would receive a phone call that would lure them to come home.

"Not everything is fleshed out, but there is a general plan. We had a million ideas [for what the cliffhanger would be], and we may still use a couple of them. There are some stories that I still love and that we may still use," Executive Producer Lizzy Weiss tells  The Wrap

At the idea of the time jump of 10 months, Weiss explains, "10 months seemed like a long enough period that Bay (Vanessa Marano)could become a tattoo artist and pick up some Mandarin, and Daphne could get a job at a clinic. Just long enough that you could start to put some roots in a new country."

Moreover, it can be recalled that in season 4,  Emmett (Sean Berdy) and Bay called their relationship off. However, the showrunner said that Emmett might just let Bay go at the moment.

"You're right that Emmett set her free for now. And what was really important for that moment, for me, was that Emmett basically apologizes for not standing by her with the Tank episode. He's just a kid himself, and he had his own set of issues and feelings when that happened with Tank," she said.

In addition, Weiss also explained to  The Mary Sue that an infant with down syndrome will be among the cast. This will be Toby (Lucas Grabeel) and Lily's (Rachel Shenton) child.

"There is a talent agent who handles (I believe almost exclusively) actors with Down syndrome, so there is a system out there to find whomever you need."

"Switched at Birth" Season 5 will air on ABC Family in 2016.

What do you think about the things that EP Lizzy Weiss divulged for the upcoming season of 'Switched at Birth?'
