Architizer A+ 2014 Award winners revealed

Architizer, the largest online platform dedicated to architecture and interior design, has announced the winners of its Architizer A+ awards for 2014. There are 129 winners in about 60 categories ranging from bigwigs like Zaha Hadid and Bjarke Ingels to upcoming firms like MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple and Scenic Architecture.

The Architizer Awards are just a year old but already Mother Nature Network is calling them the "Golden Globes" of the architectural business, in comparison to the Pritzker Prize, known as the "Oscars" of the industry.

"This year, we are proud to celebrate our 129 winners from all over the world because they have all done spectacular work. As a profession, we need to raise our heads up from our desks and tell the world about the buildings and spaces we create-and that it isn't about one winner; it is about a world of innovation that addresses the issues facing our society," Marc Kushner, CEO of Architizer, wrote in a blog post.

The winners were chosen by a panel of 300 judges and readers of Architizer.

"Comprising diverse and innovative global projects from starchitects to emerging firms, this year's winners represent the best new architecture, interiors, and products. A highly-esteemed jury of over 300 industry leaders including Yves Béhar, Paola Antonelli, Liz Diller, Joseph Altuzarra, David Rockwell, Rem D. Koolhaas, and Ian Schrager selected the Jury Winners, while an online public vote determined the Popular Choice winners, with votes from over 100 countries and territories," the website states.

Main categories include Residential, Office, Commercial, Transportation, Cultural, Institutional, Landscape and Student. There are several subcategories under each group.

The Architizer A+ Awards Gala will be held May 15 in New York City at the NYC x Design event that will start May 9. All the winners will be recognized and given the opportunity to say three words - a noun, a verb and a preposition - for an acceptance speech, reports Coolhunting.com.

The award statuette itself is a marvel. A white cube with a hairline crack running in the center, the cube splits in half at the racks and has a metal "plus" that has the title engraved on it. The award was developed by Snarkitecture in collaboration with Society Awards, the makers of the Golden Globe and VMA statuettes.
