‘Justice League’ Movie Updates & Rumors: DC Comics' Black Canary to Appear on Film as Darkseid Wreaks Havoc on Earth

The upcoming "Justice League" movie will have more female superheroes aside from Wonder Woman, with Black Canary reportedly being penned in the script to be part of the team that will battle Darkseid.

In DC Comics, Black Canary is a fiery woman who has banshee-like superpowers and is the better half of Green Arrow a.k.a. Oliver Queen. Both characters are members of the Justice League, and now it seems that Black Canary is set to appear on the big screen, Comic Book reported.

Rumors have it that DC and Warner Bros. are already eyeing two possible contenders for the Black Canary role, and none of them has previously played the character in the small screen. One actress being tapped to take on the role is Alona Tal of "Supernatural" while the other is Abby Lee of "Mad Max: Fury Road."

It is not certain though whether the character will appear in "Justice League" Part 1 or its follow-up film.

In the meantime, the villain for the film may have already been chosen. According to the synopsis posted in My Entertainment World, the superheroes will be called to form the Justice League in order to defend Earth from someone who wants to destroy it. This villain is Darkseid, a leader of the Apokolips planet. He set his eyes on Earth to be able to blast it into pieces so that his planet could take its place.

The surfacing of Darkseid is in contrast to earlier rumors that Brainiac would be the mega-villain in "Justice League." The source for the Darkseid news, however, is a listing of job offers including roles for featured films.

Along with the synopsis, the date and location of "Justice League" filming have also been posted. Filming of the upcoming DC Comics movie will reportedly start in June 2016 in the UK.
