'Riddick' Movie Update: Vin Diesel Reveals Sequel and TV Spin-Off

Action star Vin Diesel dropped the bomb about the cult-favorite "Riddick" film franchise.

According to Comicbook Resources, the "Fast and Furious" star announced the latest "Riddick" update on Instagram.

“Last night our company had a party to launch our TV division,” Diesel writes. “MERC CITY is a show that will follow the Mercs and Bounty Hunters of the Riddick Universe. Next Month, DT begins writing the next Chapter in the Chronicles of Riddick… FURIA.”

The 48-year-old Diesel, who was known for broadcasting his surprising revelations on social media, shared new information about "Fast and Furious" and "xXx" in October. Diesel said that they are looking for a new director to replace "Star Trek" helmer James Wan and the new "xXx" film will be entitled "Xander Returns."

In Diesel's latest update, the Hollywood A-lister delved right again in the sci-fi universe that gave him the "anti-hero" role. The sci-fi franchise has three live-action films including "Pitch Black" in 2000, "The Chronicles of Riddick" in 2004 and "Riddick" in 2013.

Diesel shared a photo from the 2004 film featuring Diesel and Judi Dench in their respective roles. He added the caption saying that there are future "Riddick" plans for a film sequel and spin-off series.

The outlet further elaborated the upcoming "Riddick" TV series entitled "Merc City" is currently in the works under the new TV division of Diesel's company. Diesel shared that the story will revolve around the Mercs and Bounty Hunters, who were featured in the "Riddick" films.

David Twohy, whom he addressed as "DT," is the one who wrote and directed all of the "Riddick" movies. He will begin the production for the next "Riddick" film entitled "Furia." It is the name of the planet where Riddick and his fellow men lived.

The "Riddick" series had a moderate box-office but it garnered a strong cult following since its release. It starred Vin Diesel, Thandie Newton, Karl Urban, Colm Feore, Judi Dench, Katee Sackhoff and Dave Bautista.
