Real Estate News: Chalkboard Walls, Is it a Fun Decor or Just A Mess?

Gone are the days when kids can only see a gigantic chalkboard in their classrooms. Currently, there has been a wave of design blogs that showed us the innovation brought about by some homes - a chalkboard wall right in the living room, dining room, kitchen, family room or whichever portion of the house that can actually make space for this fun-filled area.

Chalkboard walls were once only part of the schools. However, lately, a lot of homes have been incorporating this into their interior design, most especially as part of the kitchens.

According to Curbed.com, the theory behind the chalkboard walls is the fact that it can can lead to a more productive kitchen, as they can serve as place for reminders about appointments, grocery lists, and more. However, with the smartphones that we already possess, this might sound superficial.

One advocate of chalkboard walls in Curbed.com believes that they can be fun. In fact, they produce a sense of nostalgia of one's youth. Of course, for a family with kids, chalkboard walls can be helpful. It can be one of the facets in your home where you can have fun with your children while doodling on the walls. Moreover, their creativity will be tested and developed.

However, having chalkboard walls is not all cutesy and creative. Certain concerns such as health-related and cleanliness can be some of the reasons not to like the idea of having it in one's home. Chalk residue can roam around the house causing allergies to those living in it. Moreover, there will be a need to constantly clean the area near the wall.

Although chalkboard walls can be really fun and cute, it might not be a good idea to have a whole wall dedicated to doodles and drawings in your home - especially if you are allergic to talc.

So, what are your thoughts about chalkboard walls?
