Apple TV rumor: Promo designed to get rid of old stock, make way for new?

Rumors that the next-generation of Apple TV may be just around the corner have been fanned once again, this time through the announcement of a promo that seems designed to clear the shelves of the current model.

Anyone who buys an Apple TV before March 5 will receive a $25 gift card redeemable at the iTunes Store, iBooks Store, MacApp Store and App Store.

The Cupertino titan hasn't provided any major update to the product since March 2012. But according to a recent company's shareholder meeting, the Apple TV generated $1 billion revenue for the company in 2013.

"It's a little more difficult to call it a hobby these days," Cook said, according to Reuters.

The upcoming TV hardware is reported to come with a renovated iOS, among other things.
