Huawei Mate 8 Review & Specs: High-End Smartphone Impresses, Gains High Scores From Experts

Huawei's upcoming phablet, the Mate 8, is set for release on Nov. 26.However, the smartphone-slash-tablet from the China-based tech firm has already impressed people and set benchmarks for its performance.

Android Headlines reports that the upcoming smartphone got listed on AnTuTu with a whopping score of 89.630, which is actually the highest figure given to a smartphone by AnTuTu to date. 

VR-Zone shared an image of the rankings by AnTuTu, showing Huawei Mate 8 at the top of their benchmark scores, followed by Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and by Samsung Galaxy S6. AnTuTu is a very popular Android smartphone and tablet benchmarking app used by smartphone testers, vendors, and individuals.

The Huawei Mate 8, with model number NXT-AL10. comes with a 6-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) screen and packs 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage capacity. The device is powered by the impressive HiSilicon Kirin 950 64-bit octa-core SoC running at 2.2GHz. It has a 16-megapixel shooter at the rear and an 8-megapixel camera installed at the front. The Mate 8 will be running on the pre-installed Android Marshmallow.

Based on the leaked images, the Huawei Mate 8's casing will be made of metal, most probably aluminum. Other high-end features that the smartphone will be packing is a fingerprint scanner for added security and a rear camera installed with face sensors. There are rumors circulating that the Mate 8 will be equipped with a 21-megapixel rear camera and not a 16-megapixel shooter as stated above.

Following the success of the Huawei Ascend Mate 7, Huawei promises that the Mate 8 will continue the company's trend of producing high-quality, high-end devices. The company has already overtaken rival Xiaomi as the largest smartphone vendor in the Chinese market, Forbes reported.

"Huawei's ascent to China's smartphone throne is a remarkable feat, especially in the context of an increasingly cutthroat and maturing Chinese smartphone market," Canalys analyst Jessie Ding remarked.
