TV Shows Report Card: Titles Coming Back in 2016 and Those That Won’t

Compilation of TV shows that will be back next year and titles that will no longer be renewed.

The TV industry is a cutthroat business and not all television shows are created equal. According to TV Line, this period until May will be a crucial one for TV shows and their respective showrunners as networks ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and The CW will closely monitor how well each episode performs and will decide on whether to renew the show for another season or not. With this in mind, here are some shows that have been deemed worthy to return next year and those that failed to impress viewers.

For ABC: "How to Get Away with Murder" is surely coming back along with "Grey's Anatomy," "Modern Family," "Once Upon a Time," and "Quantico," among many others. Shows like "The Astronaut's Wives Club," "Rookie Blue" and "The Whispers" have been officially cancelled due to failing ratings.

For CBS: Heavyweights "Big Bang Theory," "Criminal Minds," "NCIS," are joined by "Zoo," and "Scorpion" in the shoo-in list of titles coming back in 2016. Meanwhile, "Under the Dome" and "Extant" have been canned while "CSI" aired its final episode in September which means it will not be back as well.

Meanwhile, in a report by Cheat Sheet, popularity is not a guarantee that a TV series is going to be renewed year after year. Some shows do get to the end of its natural life while some are cancelled due to bad ratings. "Mad Men" has officially ended in May and will not be airing next year. "The Following" which stars A-list actor Kevin Bacon has also been cancelled after only three seasons. It was a big hit when it first aired in 2013 but has since shown a continued drop in ratings. "Resurrection" is also another show that will not be returning after only two seasons.
