5 Things People (Almost Always) Forget When Designing Their Living Room

You already have this beautiful setting in your head and you think you almost know what you want. But until you finally have to decide on what sofa to choose, what paint color (or maybe you just want to use wallpaper), what chairs, what everything - you realize it's harder than you think it is!

Designing your living room can be challenging; and here are the 5 things that people almost always forget while at it according to Apartment Therapy:

A plan for extra seating

Counting the main people who will use the space is a good place to start. But if you have ever been to other people's place for a book night, you know that the struggle for finding extra seating is real.

When designing the living room, plan the seats that will be used on a daily basis, then plan the extra seating. These extra rests don't have to be actual chairs; it can be an upholstered side table, stools, or even dining chairs that can be conveniently mixed in when needed. Bottom line is: plan.

To consider a need for flexible furniture

It could be a coffee table that doubles for board game nights, a sofa that doubles as a bed (of course), or tables that have hidden compartments for storing things. Flexible furniture are must-have pieces especially with small spaces. When designing your living room, consider other functions that the space may serve like an extra space to sleep in when friends and family stay for the night.

Take care of the wire management

With so much to take care of, this is always something that's dealt with last, or not at all! When in fact, those gnarly wires and cords can easily make a space look cluttered and can even pose danger (remember that one time your tripped over the PlayStation cord?).  When planning for furniture and arrangements, it would help to consider where wires go so they are not in plain sight.

That it doesn't have to look like this forever

The pressure to come up with the perfect arrangement and make sure that everything looks put together can get you all worked up to the point of obsession! But you have to remember that it is also just trial and error; finding the perfect combinations and coming up with the right pieces. Unless you are knocking down a wall, it's okay to experiment. You can always change them up after all.
