Singapore's Latest Development: Marina One's Sky Garden

Sky gardens are under development in Singapore's Marina One. Luxurious office towers may not be that close to nature but the rainforest at Marina One is different and involves less environmental destruction.

According to Luxury Listings NYC, the building's architect, Ingenhoven Architects said that the "building complex will actually be environmentally friendly and has many energy saving features."

The development will be consisting of two 34-story residential towers and also two 30-story commercial buildings. It has been reported that both the residential area and office buildings will be flanked by "sky gardens." The gardens will have "lush vegetation, spectacular waterfalls and calm reflecting pools."

Architectural Digest shared that plans for Marina One was designed by landscape architect firm, Gustafson Porter. Porter said in a statement that "Marina One is one of the first developments of its type to integrate soft landscape into the fabric of the building."

The "Green Heart" is the name of the public vertical garden that is located between the four towers. "Rising from the Green Heart are the Strata Terraces, Cloud Garden, Green Screens, and Rooftop Gardens." It has been said that these are meant to suggest the changing environments being encountered by a person when they are climbing a mountain.

Porter said that, "There is often a preconception that the climate is too hot and humid to make active use of outdoor space." He continued his explanation saying, "But by breaking down the barriers between air-conditioned interior space and exterior shaded space, we can still create spaces to dwell which are softened by plants, with a light breeze and the sound of water movement."

It has been said that the complex area will be complete with restaurants, food court, supermarket, fitness club and even event spaces.

Meanwhile, a Green Mark Platinum rating was awarded to the towers because of its environmentally friendly and sustainability design. The project is set for completion in 2017.
