Celebrity Real Estate: The Fun and Funky Cobble Hill Townhouse of Beastie Boy Mike D Gets $5.5M

The Post reports that the funky Cobble Hill townhouse of Beastie Boy Mike D, aka Michael Diamond, has been sold for $5.5 million, just $150,000 under the asking price. Mike D and his wife, Tamra Davis (a cookbook author and music video director), bought the four-storey, five-bedroom home for $3.1 million in 2011. The couple then undertook a quirky yet modern renovation.

Built in 1853, the 3,200-square-foot home was described by Diamond as "a suburban dream re-interpreted for Brooklyn." Despite all the new additions, the couple retained much of the townhouse's historic bones, such as the marble mantel and wood-burning fireplace in the living room and the wide plank wood floors.

According to 6SQFT, the kitchen features a sleek floor-to-ceiling wooden cabinetry, Carrara marble island, and restaurant-worthy hanging glass shelves. The stairs from the kitchen lead down to the large backyard with a manicured lawn, basketball area, and patio.

Located on the upper floors are two children's bedrooms and the home's crowning jewel, the remarkable full-floor master suite.

The design work of Diamond in his own home gave him so much inspiration that he recently helped his friend, an architect, design a new-construction townhouse in Boerum Hill, which was sold for $5 million.

The home of Beastie Boy Mike D in 148 Baltic Street is a meticulously renovated four-storey townhouse with five bedrooms and three and a half baths on Cobble Hill.

The Corcoran said that the house features an artistic mix of 19th-century-period details and modern interior renovation to create a truly special house. This home has preserved its 1854 brick façade, window sashes, cornice, ironwork, and interior details such as floral crown molding and wide plank floors.

Modern updates of the house include all new mechanicals, central air, stunning kitchen and baths, satellite kitchen, media room, and a full floor master suite.

The open kitchen and the expansive dining room feature three glass doors that lead to outdoor dining on the deck and a staircase to the garden.
