Kate Middleton and Prince William Inspired Novel 'The Royal We' Adapted as Movie, Mae Whitman Plays Kate

Fug Girls's novel, "The Royal We," which is a fictional take about the love story of Prince William and Kate Middleton, will be adapted for the big screen, according to Hollywood Reporter.

Said novel is written by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan of the website "Go Fug Yourself," which was published on April this year. The story has a similarity to that of the Duch and Duchess of Cambridge but the tale is about an American girl name Bex who meets Prince Nicholas while she is studying at Oxford.

Like Prince William, Prince Nicholas is a military man and has a redhead younger brother named Freddie as well as a paparazzi favorite mother. To substitute Kate's sister Pippa is a beautiful and fun-loving sister of Bex.

The book also has a similar story with the real life romance of the two royals that started with a college romance, nights out in London, a brief split, and also a royal wedding.

Although there are many similarities of the story to that of Kate and William's, the authors created a different set of characters.

"It truly isn't Wills and Kate. Yes, it was an idea borne of watching their seemingly courtship in the media, but through Bex's eyes we had the freedom we needed to imagine all the potential behind-the-scenes emotions and conflicts of that love story," Cocks said, according to People Magazine.

To star on the upcoming movie adaptation of the book are former "Parenthood" co-stars Lauren Graham and Mae Whitman. Graham will write the script and Whitman will act on the project, Vanity Fair reported.

"Lauren Graham and Mae Whitman are both such smart, awesome women," Morgan said according to People. "Our book could not be in better hands."

The authors of the book love the idea to work with the mom-and-daughter duo and are still hoping that they will still be part of the actual filming process.

"Bex Porter loves junk food and bad TV, so she'd make a great honorary Gilmore Girl," Cocks said about Graham. "And Mae is so funny and lively, but then can absolutely break your heart with tears. I made an extremely undignified yelping noise when this all came together. I can't imagine anyone but Lauren and Mae bringing this to life."
