YouTube's First Movie 'Dance Camp' Has 'More Adult Tone'

It was earlier this year that YouTube and Awesomeness Films teamed up in order to create future films together. Last month, Entertainment Weekly reported that YouTube and Awesomeness Films announced that they are starting their first movie together entitled, "Dance Camp."

"Dance Camp" is a teen drama starring Nadji Jeter (Grown Ups) and YouTube and Vine stars Meg DeAngelis and Jake Paul. According to Variety, the movie is said to be patterned from the successful Disney hits "High School Musical," "Camp Rock" and "Teen Beach Movie."

According to producer, Matt Kaplan the movie will also feature a lot of dance and song numbers but it will just differ from Disney's flick when it comes to content since it will be covering a more mature storyline.

Kaplan said, "This movie's probably a little more adult in tone" than the likes of "HSM." The movie will more focus on teen love and friendships. This will star Jeter as Hunter who happened to be reckless and was sent to the camp by his mother. At first he refuses to take the camp seriously but later was able to make friends and find love with Cheyenne (D'Angelis). Later on he will team up with the other campers against a rival dance group's leader Lance (Paul).

The movie is said to be co-produced by Jon M. Chu ("Step Up Revolution," "Jem and the Holograms") and his Chu Studios banner. Kaplan said that "music and dance are universally appealing." He also added that, "We are thrilled to be working with prolific dance experts like Jon and Fatima on Dance Camp as they continue to set the bar for the dance genre."

YouTube is expected to have the first right of the distribution of "Dance Camp" but they are still thinking about other distribution strategy that they can use.
