'Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined' Novel Published; Bella and Edward's Gender Swapped?

Stephanie Meyer has published a new novel in honor of the 10th anniversary of the best-selling franchise "Twilight." This is a 442-page novel entitled "Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined," in which Bella and Edward get gender-swapped, Variety reported.

According to Hollywood Life, the book still include all original characters, however, opposite roles took place. Edward (played by Robert Pattinson) has turned into Edythe while Bella Swan (played by Kristen Stewart) is now Beau, in-short for Beaufort. Meanwhile, Jacob (played by Taylor Lautner) has become Julie in the new book.

Speaking with "Good Morning America" about her new novel, Meyer shared, "I wanted to do something fun for the 10th anniversary and the publisher wanted like a foreword and I thought, 'Well, maybe something more interesting.'" She also added, "It's always bothered me a little bit because anyone surrounded by superheroes is going to be . . . in distress. We don't have the powers. I thought, 'What if we switched it around a bit and see how a boy does,' and, you know, it's about the same."

Meyer also revealed that she got inspired by those readers who were wondering if Bella was painted as a "typical damsel in distress." And Meyer explained her answer, "My answer to that has always been that Bella is a human in distress, a normal human being surrounded on all sides by people who are basically superheroes and super villains."

She explained further, "She's also been criticized for being too consumed with her love interest, as if that's somehow just a girl thing. But I've always maintained that it would have made no difference if the human were male and the vampire female - it's still the same story."

Meyer also explained that the main story in "Twilight" was all about first love and magic. She said, "Gender and species aside, 'Twilight' has always been a story about the magic and obsession and frenzy of first love... So I thought to myself, 'Well, what if I put that theory to the test?'"

According to Yahoo! News, Meyer enjoyed reimagining the story. She also said that writing the new novel was "fast and easy to write."

"Life and Death: Twilight Reimagined" is now available in the market.
