Ottawa Property Sales Rise in September

According to the Ottawa Real Estate Board, 1,244 residential homes were sold in September 2015. In the same month a year ago, the residential home sold is 1,131, thus this year it is up by 113. The OREB said it was the best September.

Ottawa Citizen reported that board president David Oikle said, "Ottawa Real Estate Board members continued their active summer into a busy fall. There was a possibility that the federal election campaign might affect the local real estate market, but this does not appear to have been the case thus far."

Ottawa Citizen further said there was a slight slump in the property market in July while August picked up a bit before September because busy. A total of 11,814 resale homes have been sold using the OREB's Multiple Listing Service within the current year. On the other hand, about the same time period last year, the OREB reported total sales of 11,275 units so now it is up by 539 resale homes.

Residential homes are said to be the most desired units on the market today. On the other hand, the demand for condominiums continue to decline. According to the OREB, 1,023 resale homes were closed in September, which is considered a 13.8 percent rise over the 899 sold during the September of 2014. In the same month condominium sales dropped to 221, down by 11 from 232 in September 2014.

In terms of price, the price of those homes seem unchanged if compared to prices last year, even if there was an increase in homes sold in the strong month of September. During the month, the average sale price of a home in Ottawa was recorded to be $385,142, which is just an increase of 0.5 percent over the month of September in 2014.
