Google Glass to Use Holographic Display

The Google Glass may still sound like a thing from the future. According to Mashable Asia, "Google Glass" is Google's effort to develop glasses that amplify or compliment reality. It previously goes by the name "Project Glass" and its concept was first introduced on April 4, 2012, on a Google+ page, which also featured a YouTube video that demonstrates the possible use of the innovative glasses.

Now, sources are claiming that this wearable from Google is now called as Project Aura. Project Aura was said to have been made available to the public in May 2014 but it was discontinued in January of this year. According to Mashable, Google may be secretly distributing this to select companies in health care, manufacturing and energy industries. There have been speculations that there will be a consumer version of this in the future but since it is still being called as a "Project" it may still be intended for research projects and not end products yet.

On the other hand, according to Endgadget, Google reportedly has filed for a patent on a "head wearable display" that would show holograms. This could be the future of the current Google Glass, which still doesn't feel so 3D for the user, meaning that Google Glass still surrounds you with flat pictures superimposed on a 3D world. Hopefully with the said hologram effect, the user can see more depth and would include a wider field of view and an easier-to-wear headset.

If Google would ever get the patent, there is still no certainty that Google will right away work on the technology to give Microsoft's HoloLens a contender in the near future. However, this also means that Google will be working on the next generation for Google Glass which hopefully may be widely available soon to the consumer market. Google is said to have invested largely into augmented reality flagships like the alleged mysterious Magic Leap's project.

For now, all these may seem to be early in the research and development phase. Likewise, it is speculated that Project Aura may be released in a different name in the future.
