'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Updates: Film Will have Two Female Lead Actresses

It looks like "Star Wars: Episode VIII" movie will have lots of surprises for its avid fans. The next Star Wars installment is said to be featuring not just one female protagonist but two.

In a previous report by IGN, it was mentioned that three female actresses have vied for a female lead role in the upcoming latest Star Wars sequel directed by Rian Johnson. The said female actresses are "Jane the Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez, "Orphan Black" star Tatiana Maslany, and "Bates Motel" star Olivia Cooke. Now, it turns out that the film producers are actually looking for two female actresses.

According to The Wrap, insiders have revealed that the film is in its casting process and director Rian Johnson is still auditioning for the most suitable actress. Moreover, other insiders suggested that the group of girls lined up to be good match for John Boyega are down to Rodriguez, Maslany and Cooke and most probably a decision will be made by the end of the month. On the other hand, a representative from Disney is said to have declined to comment.

According to IGN, Maslany had auditioned for the lead role in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" but the role was awarded to Felicity Jones. She is reportedly nominated for both Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her multiple-role performance on "Orphan Black."

On the other hand, Rodriguez had won a Golden Globe for her role in the TV series "Jane the Virgin." She is reported to be starring with Mark Wahlberg and Dylan O'Brien in the movie "Deepwater Horizon." Last but not the least, Cooke is known for her appearance in the horror movie "Ouija" while she reportedly is up for the female lead in Steven Spielberg's "Ready Player One."

There are no updates for the next sequel just yet but it has been reported that "Star Wars: Episode VIII" will be released in May 2017.
