A New Look at Smart Homes: Nest Weave to Make Your Home Less Technologically 'Dumb'

Almost every home in the United States now has a Smart Home Technology. It can be in their appliances, security devices, or thermostats. The nation's foremost trusted thermostat brand has taken a new look on Smart Homes, and they're promising to make your Smart Homes "less dumb."

Nest will now try and take over your smart home with the use of a network of connections between your smart home technologies.

The Nest Weave is a new protocol developed by Nest that lets all kinds of devices 'talk to each other.'

According to Gizmondo, the new software that uses the novel phrase 'thoughtful home,' has the primary objective of making your Smart Home less dumb.

How can they achieve such a feat? For example, when someone breaks into your home while you are gone, the Nest Cam will be able to sense motion and will send signals to your other smart home devices. It can trigger the lights to turn on and even lock your doors simultaneously, by utilizing the mesh networking approach.

Nest Weave uses Thread Protocol as well as Wi-Fi to create a de-facto mesh network between your home devices, in order to make sure that your devices will perform well with little latency, no matter how far they are from the router.

Nest Weave doesn't need a smart hub to connect all your devices. But, you might spend above $100 because the mesh network will only be functional if you have Nest Products such as the Nest Thermostat, Nest Protect, or Nest Cam. Any combination of the three products will do as well.

It is advisable when shopping for your next smart home device that you look for the 'Work with Nest' logo to ensure that the device will be compatible and will function well with the Nest Weave.

Yale's Linus Lock is the first company to officially launch a device that works well with the Nest Weave. Other Smart Home Device Companies are Phillips Hue, August Smart Locks, SkyBell, Lutron, GE, and iHome.

Nest has also announced that they will launch their very own Nest Store, wherein they will feature all the 'Works with Nest' products.
