Would You Live in a Remodelled Religious Building for Rent?

In search of a one of a kind apartment? Lifestyle expert Brie Dyas shares about a new kind of remodelling trend in her blog post on Trulia. In the post, Dyas describes these buildings which were once centers of worship, but have been remodelled to become rental spaces.

1.    Beautiful brickwork in a Gothic Revival conversion at 232 Adelphi Street #7, Brooklyn, NY 11205

The property combines historic space with a decidedly modern spirit. It features top of the line appliances, sleek cabinetry, understated tiles, and arched windows. It is airy and spacious, as well as comes with two bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths. The place can be rented for $7,300 a month.

2.    Stunning stained glass in the former St. Michael and the Apostles Church at  1 Pius Street #A3, Pittsburgh, PA 15203

Built in 1861, much of the interior remains the same with that of the original structure. Stained-glass windows highlight the living room, while the balcony gives you a view of Pittsburgh. The cork flooring not only absorbs noise but also gives a slight contemporary touch.

The apartment has two bedrooms and two-and-a-half baths spread on its two floors. Its area measures 2,044 square feet. Occupying it, though, is not cheap as it is listed for $6,200 a month.

3.    Old World atmosphere in the old St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church at 167 North 6th Street #A17, Brooklyn, NY 11211

Located in the trendy North Williamsburg neighborhood, the recent renovation retained much of the original structure across its two buildings. It is filled with authentic rustic charm, exposed brick, arched stained-glass windows, exquisite heart-pine pillars and beams. The floors are from reclaimed 100-year-old shipping boxes and have an incredible patina. This two-bedroom, three-bath converted church apartment is priced at $6,875 a month.

4.    Soaring ceilings set in an incredible Gothic stone structure in 2321 Fitzwater Street #101, Philadelphia, PA 19146

The loft apartment strongly reflects its original church theme. It has preserved features like the hardwood floors, re-purposed stained-glass windows, and even the original pews.

A number of updates can be found in this two-bedroom, one-bath unit and it is most evident in the kitchen where you will find subway tiles, European cabinetry, and high-end appliances. For such splendor, it is quite surprising that you can rent it for a smaller amount of $1,850 a month.
