‘Narcos’ Season 2 Release Date, Spoilers: What Will Happen Next?

Barely a week after the first season of "Narcos" was released on Netflix, the drama series based on real-life story has been renewed for Season 2.

Netflix released the whole 10-episode first season of "Narcos" on Aug. 28 and on Sept. 3, it announced that the drama series starring Wagner Moura (Pablo Escobar) is renewed for another season. Netflix does not release ratings to the public, but by the looks of it, "Narcos" has gained pretty good reviews and buzz in just a short period of time, according to When-Will.net.

"Narcos" tells the story of one of the most notorious cocaine traffickers in history, Pablo Escobar, and the law enforcements' efforts to fight the drug cartels in 1980s. It follows two U.S. CIA agents Javier Peña (Pedro Pascal) and Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook) who are obsessed in hunting Escobar. They were sent to Colombia to capture and ultimately kill the kingpin.

A quick Wikipedia search could spoil the whole season. But as The Guardian said, there's still much action to expect from each episode. There's still a lot of events and characters to follow. According to The Guardian, Netflix's original series includes all members of Escobar's Medellin Cartel, U.S. Embassy staff in Bogota, two U.S. presidents, several Colombian politicians who were assassinated, and many other characters who played small or big roles in Escobar's life.

So what's the second season going to be about? Warning: Spoilers ahead.

In Season 1's finale, Escobar escaped into the woods and Murphy promised to see him dead. Leah Thomas of Bustle predicts that Season 2 will about the manhunt and Escobar's growing worries that he'll be killed in the U.S. soil, one thing that he doesn't want to happen. As to how long the story could stretch in the next season depends on how many seasons Netflix would have for "Narcos." Escobar escaped the armed prison again in 1992, one of his may big prison breaks, according to Bustle. Escobar died in 1993 in a police shootout, so eventually the story is going to end.

Bustle also reported that a special op team was formed to put down Escobar. In addition to Peña, Murphy, and the DEA, it includes U.S. Navy Seals, Delta Force, and the ISA. And in an interesting turn of event, they partnered with a former enemy, vigilante group Los Pepes with members like Cali Cartel.

There's still much to tell and explore and Netflix can stretch the story further, now that "Narcos" is gaining more buzz as people start catching up. Production and release schedule of the second season are yet to be announced.
