'Doctor Who' Season 9 Cast, Spoilers & Updates: Jenna Coleman Leaves Show, RIP Clara Oswald?

As "Doctor Who" season nine makes its premiere tonight, Jenna Coleman has confirmed to BBC that she will be leaving the show for good. The English actress, who has played Doctor Who's assistant Clara Oswald for three years, told BBC Radio 1, "I have left the Tardis - it's happened. I've filmed my last scenes."

On Twitter, Coleman assured her fans that despite her leaving the show, she will not disappear from television entirely. "Adventures to last me a lifetime. Thank you @bbcdoctorwho. But as they say 'It ain't over till it's over," she tweeted last Sept. 18.

The 29-year-old Coleman was referring to her new role on ITV's newest drama series, "Victoria."  She will be playing as the young Queen Victoria, when she is just about to begin her would-be long and glorious reign.

"She is a vivid, strong, inspirational and utterly fascinating woman in British history and I can't wait to tell her story," the actress continued on her BBC Radio 1 interview.

Coleman is currently busy with preparations for the show, calling them "like a bootcamp," as she had to learn to dance waltz and play Beethoven pieces on the piano.

There's no official premiere date yet for "Victoria." Meanwhile, the ninth season of "Doctor Who" airs on BBC One tonight, Sept. 19.

Coleman's departure from the show is rumored to happen sometime in October. According to Celebrity Dirty Laundry, a popular theory that's been circulating is that her character will be killed off. On the show's IMDB page, there is a listed episode entitled "The Girl Who Died," set to be aired on Oct. 17. Many fans believe that this will be Clara Oswald's final farewell from the show.
