Apple iPhone 7 Release Date & Rumors: New Smartphone To Feature A10 Chip & 'Sidewall Displays' Similar to Galaxy Edge Phones, Will Arrive On March 2016?

Rumor has it that tech giant Apple is currently working on the next iteration of smartphone, the iPhone 7. Although the latest rumor has not yet been confirmed by the company, it was said that Apple's upcoming smartphone will be thinner, sleeker and will be able to offer more technological features compared with the recently announced iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s Plus, a report from iDigital Times said on Friday.

It was said that the rumored iPhone 7 will be powered by an A10 chip. Apple has reportedly begun the process of ordering the parts of the said smartphone, specifically the handset's A10 mobile chip.

According to the rumor, the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has secured an exclusive supply contract for the A10 chip. The chip is expected to come out with a dimension of 16 nm.  TSMC will start the production of the A1 chip on March 2016.

"The iPhone 7 rumors also predict that the general processing and graphical performance in the A10 will be vastly superior to the current A9 SOC in the iPhone 6s and the 6s Plus. Of course, the iPhone 6s models were created with an A9 chip superior to the A8 chip used in the iPhone 6. Other rumors about the iPhone 7 specs include the thickness of the iPhone 7 could be less than 6.5mm, comparable to the thin frame of the iPod Touch," the report noted.

In terms of design, specs and other features, PC Advisor reports that iPhone 7's size will be largely similar to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s Plus. The smartphone is expected to be available in four colors:  Silver, Gold, Space Grey and Rose Gold. It will feature  a 12Mp iSight camera with a 400 ppi screen resolution. Aside from the rumored A10 processor, it will be equipped with 2 GB of internal memory.

"There are some rumours to suggest that the iPhone 7 could have some new design features. The speculation about a new design stems from an Apple patent that was published in 2015. It describes what Apple calls 'sidewall displays,' similar to the display found on the Galaxy Note Edge, S6 Edge and S6 Edge+," the report added.
