House Renovation: 8 Tell-Tale Signs Your Home Is Having A Mid Life Crisis

How old is your home? Is it in its fifth decade or older? In that case, your home could be going through a mid life crisis. But don't even think that you need to start shopping for a newer, younger model when all you really need to do is address the problems that every home that's going through a mid life crisis should face.

Here are 8 tell-tale signs that your home is having a mid life crisis according to Apartment Therapy so you know what your next home project should be:

Popcorn ceilings

You may be having a bad day that all you can do is sit in the couch, put your feet up, bend your head back and look up. But wait, what's that on the ceiling? Most homes that are decades old are expected to have those awful textures and bumps in the ceiling. Give your home a Botox by getting rid of all those bumps and make your ceiling look fresh again.

Wall-to-wall carpeting

Chances are your wall-to-wall carpeting already has those spots with thinning fibers, where most of the foot traffic is. Just like balding men should consider shaving their entire head, you might want to consider pulling out that nasty shag and replacing them with some modern hardwood.

Frumpy fixtures

The thing is, your original fixtures are likely making your home look and feel dated. Some homes just need that little bit outward flash and sparkle to feel alive again, and chandleries and some modern fixtures are great places for a little splurge.

Heavy builds

An easy way to lose a lot of weight in the feel of a home is by lightening up some built-in features. For instance, is your stairway made of thick solid wood? Why don't you consider replacing it with a metal railing to achieve that lighter and airier feel? By doing that, you also lighten up the space by letting more light in.

Dated appearance

Just like going to the makeup counter when you need a little boost in your appearance, give your space a facelift by updating some old-fashioned features like upgrading some dated stones for a fresher and more modern façade.

Drab color palette

It only takes picking the wrong color for your space to make it feel lifeless. If your beige walls are no longer making the space seem like a happier place, consider sprucing up the space with news shades to bring it to the 21st century.

Cheap doors

Are you interior and closet doors starting to let themselves go? Liven them up by adding some custom features like a new trim or new paint to make them look more put together and polished.

Bad wallpaper

Your home's wallpaper from years ago has to go. While it has sentimental venue, you know that the walls need some desperate re-haul. Strip off those 1970's wallpapers and consider putting up a more edgy and modern wallpaper design fit for the current decade you are actually in.
