Ryu, Chun-Li and Ken feel threathened? 5 Things You Need to Know About the Newest 'Street Fighter 5' Character

Capcom introduced the newest addition to the "Street Fighter" squad last Friday at the Games 15 event in Dubai. His name is Rashid (pronounced ra-SHEED), he's Arabic, and he has wind-wielding powers. He will definitely bring a different level of competition to the game. Should "Street Fighter" top dogs Ryu, Chun-Li, and Ken feel threathened?

Here are five things you need to know about "Street Fighter 5" newest warrior:

Race

Rashid is the second fighter of Arabic descent to appear in the series, following Pullum Purna, who was launched in "Street Fighter EX" in 1996. In a message to IGN Middle East, Capcom's Yoshinori Ono revealed that they worked closely with Capcom's Middle Eastern distributor to develop the new character.

"It's always been great for me to see all the events and fighting game community stuff that goes on in the Middle East and of course I've had lots of you invite me to come play with you over the years," Ono said in the statement. "With Street Fighter V, we've added this brand new character who [hails] from the Middle East. I really hope you enjoy playing as him and try and make him the best Street Fighter character out there."

Appearance

Rashid has black hair, brown eyes, and visible facial hair. He also dons a yellow eyepiece on his left eye. He sports a white shemagh (headpiece) and a long white sleeveless trench coat. Underneath, he wears a black shirt, white military pants and black open-toed combat boots.

Background

According to Street Fighter Wikia, "Rashid is the eldest son of an old Middle Eastern family." He's in search for a friend who has been kidnapped by Shadaloo, a criminal organization dealing biochemical drugs and arms within the "Street Fighter" universe.

He's also a bit of a techie, according to the gaming site Gematsu. He always has the latest gadgets and uses these tools to upgrade his moves.

Fighting Style and Powers

A teaser trailer was released by Capcom showing Rashid in action. Gematsu describes his fighting style similar to parkour. This is combined with his ability to harness the power of wind, creating small and giant tornado attacks. He also moves quickly, and is able to duck below Hadouken fireballs thrown his way.

He is also said to be the first "Street Fighter" character to have two V-Skills.

Voice

"I'm Rashid of the turbulent wind. Remember the name well," we can hear the character say when he comes into play.

Rashid speaks English, with a distinct Arabic accent. He is voiced by Dan Woren, who also voiced Hajime Saito in the anime "Rurouni Kenshin."

Rashid is the second of the four new characters to be unveiled by Capcom. They previously revealed Necalli last July. Gamers can further explore these new characters when "Street Fighter 5" is finally released on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC in 2016.
