Xiaomi Pad 2 Release Date & Specs: Tablet To Feature Dual Boot Using Windows 10 And Android Marshmallow

On Wednesday, a new report has surfaced saying that Xiaomi's upcoming tablet, the Mi Pad 2, will feature a dual-boot operating system. If such report is true, then users will be able to switch between Microsoft Windows 10 and Google Android using either Lollipop or Marshmallow OS.

This development was first reported by Mobile Dad, a China-based website which claims that Mi Pad 2 users who will purchase the upcoming tablet will get more than Windows OS in their devices, a report from TechTimes said.

"A new generation of [millet] tablet will support Win10 systems (after [Millet] 4 already supports win10 a), and will use this year flat circles, popular dual system Android5.0 + Win10," the Chinese website says as quoted by the aforementioned website.

According to the report, Xiaomi's tablet will also have additional features that support Microsoft's OS. It was said that it will have a bigger display with a dimension of either 9.7 or 10.1 inches.

The tablet will be powered by a 14 nanometer processor. Aside from these, the tablet features a 2,560 x 1,440 resolution with either a 3 GB or 4 GB random access memory (RAM). The tablet's camera will be 13 MP, and the device will have an all-metal design for a first-class "look and feel." The company is likely to announce the Mi Pad 2 tablet on September 24 this year, alongside the Mi4c smartphone.

Android Headlines reports that Xiaomi is China's number one smartphone manufacturer today. Although the company has unveiled a lot of smartphones  and gadgets this year, the company has yet to announce its Mi 5 flagship, and the second-generation Mi Pad tablet is reportedly currently in the works.

"Xiaomi is not the only Chinese manufacturer that offers dual-boot functionality for its devices. There are a number of smaller and white-label manufacturers that also offer Windows 10 and Android on the same device. Asus is also known to have dabbled in dual-boot in 2014 with the Transformer Book Duet, which it touted as a tablet-laptop hybrid that can run on Windows 8.1 and Android 4.1. However, the device never landed on store shelves even though it was announced to much fanfare at the CES 2014. Rumors say the device was cancelled in March 2014 after receiving opposition from Microsoft and Google," TechTimes noted.
