Foreclosures Long Shadow still Haunt these States

During the recession, the only news about the housing market was the increasing number of foreclosures throughout the country. Now, years later, according to a report from thestreet.com, many still feel the dark reach of foreclosures in their areas.

According to data from RealtyTrac, the sale of properties in-foreclosure has declined from the past year. This has been observed for the past few years and alongside this, home sales across the US have hit an eight year high. The properties sold from foreclosure account for 6.4 percent of all sales for single family and condominiums. This is the lowest since June, where the same segment accounted for 6.4 percent and 8.0 percent from July 2014.

The following are the top foreclosure states as of July 2015, according to a report from bankrate.com:

a)     North Carolina. One in every 970 housing units had a foreclosure filing received.

b)    Ohio. One in every 932 housing units had a foreclosure filing received.

c)     South Carolina. One in every 923 housing units had a foreclosure filing received.

d)    Georgia. One in every 900 housing units had a foreclosure filing received.

e)     New Mexico. One in every 741 housing units had a foreclosure filing received.

In May 2015, the top foreclosure states are as follows, according to a report from usatoday.com:

a)     South Carolina. One in every 987 housing units had a foreclosure filing received.

b)    Indiana. One in every 963 housing units had a foreclosure filing received.

c)     Illinois. One in every 765 housing units had a foreclosure filing received.

d)    Ohio. One in every 763 housing units had a foreclosure filing received.

e)     New Mexico. One in every 726 housing units had a foreclosure filing received.

As can be seen, there have been changes between May and July 2015 as to the numbers. Even with the changes, the specter of foreclosures still hangs in many states.
