Video Game Quick Review: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is finally here and the final installment of the great Hideo Kojima's stealth game series is definitely its finest.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is Hideo Kojima's piece de resistance as far as the Metal Gear franchise is concerned and, according to Eurogamer, it is nothing short of visionary. This game has evolved greatly in terms of the use of stealth from linear surroundings into an open world. More than the previous Metal Gear titles, The Phantom Pain gives so much freedom in terms of how gamers want to play in any situation in the game. While this is not a groundbreaking concept, it has been elevated to an even bigger scale. In Metal Gear Solid 5, players are deployed by a chopper which gives users enough control for customizing layouts.

There are two main locations featured in the game, Afghanistan and Zaire. And both of these worlds are open for exploration. There is no shortage of side operations and players can wander around looking for them. Once players are dropped off from a helicopter, the mission can be completed either on foot or on horseback. The AI in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is completely smart and sophisticated. Players need to take the stealth part very seriously as most of the areas are riddled with danger and enemy units waiting to pounce.

Everything in the game connects with other elements seamlessly like wildlife scampering away when they spot movement in the trees or the bushes. Even the time of day has an effect on what players are doing or wherever they are. Dark spaces in the daytime can offer shelter and camouflage while movement can be a big challenge at night with patrols having more acute senses and are on the lookout for intruders.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is, according to IGN, a kind of game that can only exist in a wish list but it has been finally realized and every minute of the game is worth playing as it has a real purpose.
