Technology News Update: Google Has a New Logo!

Google has changed its logo and has amassed an incredible number of reactions. Some are good and some are bad. This time around the search giant opted for a specially-crafted sans-serif font with slightly tweaked colors. Google says it's "simple, uncluttered, colorful, and friendly", as reported by GSM Arena.

The logo is bundled with a new brand identity, one that we should notice inside the Google products other than search very soon (search is the first to be updated, and that's already live if you haven't noticed).

Google has published the video which shows a visual history of the company's logos with quick descriptions of some of its biggest accomplishments. Google also has a smaller version of the new logo, a four-color "G'' that replaces the previously used lowercase blue "g''. This will be seen mostly on mobile devices where space is at a premium.

Google's vice president of product management, Tamar Yehoshua and director of user experience, Bobby Nath said "Once upon a time, Google was one destination that you reached from one device: a desktop PC. These days, people interact with Google products across many different platforms, apps and devices-sometimes all in a single day," as quoted by USA Today news.

Just a month after unveiling a major restructuring of the company, Google is introducing a new logo today. The new logo is still a wordmark, but it's now using a sans-serif font, making it look a lot more modern and playful. The colors are softer than they used to be. And it bears a bit more resemblance to the logo of Google's new parent company, Alphabet, as well. Alphabet's wordmark features a similarly unadorned look which makes the two companies' design language fall more inline.

The new logo is the biggest change since 1999, when Google first cleaned up the lettering and settled on its four colors. In addition to the change of the wordmark, Google is also changing the lowercase "g'' that you see on browser tabs. It's now going to be an uppercase "G'' that's striped in all four of Google's colors.

According to The Verge, Google says that the new logo will be rolling out across all of its products soon. In fact, it now appears on Google's homepage with a cute animation wiping away the old logo and drawing in the new one.
