'Awkward' Season 5 Spoilers: Jenna & Matty End Their Friendship Due To Jake's Cheating?

"Awkward" Season 5 premiered on Monday night with an episode that saw the temporary end of Jenna (Ashley Rickards) and Matty's (Beau Mirchoff) friendship. In the episode, Jenna learned that Matty's girlfriend Gabby (Erinn Westbrook) cheated on him with Jake (Brett Davern).

Before deciding whether or not she should tell Matty, Jenna consulted with her mom Lacey (Nikki DeLoach). The latter said to not tell Matty because he might think that she's still interested in him. Even though all "Awkward" fans know that Jenna still has feelings for Matty, the character decided to stay silent.

However, towards the end of the episode, Jake told Gabby that Matty already had plans of ending his relationship with her, but wasn't able to do so. This angered Gabby, so she approached Matty and confessed that she slept with Jake. At that time, Matty and Jenna were together, so Matty asked Jenna if she knew about Gabby's cheating. Unfortunately, Jenna wasn't able to deny that she is fully aware of the incident.

Meanwhile, MTV released the official synopsis for the upcoming second season of "Awkward" Season 5 titled, "Short Circuit Party."

"Jenna causes an accident at school with surprising results; Matty deals with the fallout from his altercation with Jake," the official synopsis read.

According to Heavy, "The Matty and Jenna saga continues this season as they each have moments of wanting to rekindle their romance. In addition, there's a strange turn of events when Jenna unintentionally becomes popular and Matty become the unpopular one."

"Awkward" Season 5 will also feature the character's graduation day, graduation ball and two prom episodes. The fifth season also serves as the conclusion to the series. However, there are rumors that a reboot is possible in the near future.

"Awkward" Season 5 airs Monday nights at 9:30 p.m. ET on MTV.
