Kanye West's VMA speech was unexpected. The music mogul and husband of Kim Kardashian stepped on stage to accept his MTV Video Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award on Sunday and made the biggest announcement of his life.
He stole that moment when he announced he's running for president in 2020, according to Daily Mail. Everyone was shocked and was left speechless as West, 38, started his long speech. Present at the awards night to support him were his wife Kim Kardashian, mother-in-law Kris Jenner and sisters-in-law Kourtney Kardashian and Kylie Jenner.
"I don't know what I finna lose after this. It don't matter, though; It's not about me. It's about ideas. New ideas. People with ideas. People who believe in truth," West said. "And yes, as you probably could've guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president," the 38-year-old aspirant politician began his speech.
Award-winning singer Taylor Swift presented the award to West wich left more tongues wagging, noting the father-of-one's VMA interruption of Swift's acceptance speech in 2009. During Kanye's speech, the record producer/fashion designer discussed a couple of topics--from his smoking joint habits, how fatherhood influenced his music, artistry, and the hypocrisy of awards shows, according to The Verge.
After his memorable speech at the VMAs, the Democratic party's official Twitter page tweeted, "Last night @kanyewest declared his candidacy for president in 2020. Welcome to the race, Mr. West. Glad to have you."
Last month, Kanye and Kim showed their support for Hilary Clinton who's running for U.S. president, CNN reports. The wife of "FourFive Seconds" rapper posted on Twitter a selfie with Clinton with the caption: "I got my selfie!!! I really loved hearing her speak & hearing her goals for our country! #HillaryForPresident."
If Kanye is running for president in 2020, is Kim Kardashian ready to be the U.S.' first lady? With the couple admitting in public West's plan for candidacy, for sure there will be more of Kim and Kanye's exposure in politics.
