Burglars Target Staging Furniture from Auckland’s Open Homes

Staging furniture, used to make empty houses more desirable at open homes, are the latest pursuit of burglars in West Auckland in New Zealand. According to Detective Shaun Galbraith of the Henderson Police, an average of eight to ten empty houses are being targeted by the burglars during the previous month. Thousand worth of furniture, ranging from coffee tables, lamps, lounge suites and even bed linen have been stolen.

Authorities have been able to check on the pattern as the theft is done at night.  They believe that only one group of offenders was responsible. Galbraith see the thieves as "clean and quiet, quite methodical "since they are forensically aware and had worn gloves to prevent traces of fingerprints. "We think it's one group of people. Their modus operandi is quite distinctive," he said. He also added the possibility that the burglars are using a light truck or van.

Lorraine Wilson, owner of House Dressings Ltd, shared that she had been robbed two times already in a span of ten years, "and that's two times too many." She then has urged her clients to secure and do the necessary repairs to windows and locks.  She further advise to sit an alarm if a house will become vacant.

Just last week, Realty Today came up with an article that describes some of the free cutting-edge security apps that will help you safeguard your home. In addition to those, AA Insurance recommends that the following security steps be taken:

1.    Do not let your valuables, to include electronic appliances and devices, be seen from the outside of your house.

2.    Do not let others easily break into your house. Put away tools and lock your garden shed. Close the windows and set your burglar alarm.

3.    Get to know your neighbors so that both of you are aware of your regular hours.

4.    If you need to leave your house for long hours or for a number of days, inform your neighbor, leave your contact number and request that your mail box be cleared regularly.
