'New Girl' Season 5 Premiere Date & Spoilers: FOX Head David Madden Teases Storylines, Twists

"New Girl" Season 5 will feature different storylines and twists unlike the first four seasons. In a previous interview with TV Line, FOX head of entertainment David Madden weighed in on what lies ahead for the characters on the hit sitcom.

"Four seasons in, 'New Girl' continues to be one of the smartest and most relatable comedies on television. The writing is razor-sharp, the ensemble is consistently hilarious, and we couldn't be more proud of... the entire 'New Girl' team. We absolutely love this show and we're so excited to bring it back for season 5," he said.

Meanwhile, series creator Liz Meriweather recently talked about the filming schedule and production for "New Girl" Season 5. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Meriweather said back in May that they have already finished filming four episodes for Season 5. The production for Season 5 commenced just three weeks after Season 4 ended to accommodate Zooey Deschanel's pregnancy and maternity leave.

"We filmed four episodes of season five, so we did 26 episodes total for the year. That was a little hard. When we come back, we're doing four episodes without Zooey, actually. She'll come back after that. It's kind of a weird schedule," she said.

In other news, Meriweather also revealed how "New Girl" will pull off a few episodes without Zooey's Jess, considering she's the lead character on the show.

"Jess gets sequestered on a jury. The idea behind it was to be able to do those pastel courtroom sketches, so you could still see her in the jury. It's a little weird, but we're having fun with it. It's a way to have all of the guys check in with her. They watch the news reports on the trial. And the show being set in L.A., this is a city where celebrities get into trouble and juries really do get sequestered," she said.

"New Girl" Season 5 will premiere on FOX sometime next year.
