Hollywood Real Estate: Largest Craftsman Mansion Ever Built Now For Sale

The largest Craftsman mansion ever built, located in Los Angeles, is now for sale for almost $10 million. Despite its enormous size at 13,290 square feet, it's quite remarkable that very few people know the existence of this residence. According to listing agent H. Blair Chang on a post in realtor.com, the mansion is invisible from the street and the gated home has a coveted celebrity address in Hollywood Hills, making the house very private.

Half of the interested buyers of the grand mansion named Artemesia are from the entertainment world. Built in 1913, the prominent feature of this home is a pipe organ that covers three levels of the house. Chang also said that the chance to buy the house does not come often and that the property has only been place on the market four times despite its age. An added bonus for the next owner is that the mansion sits in a location that is a very short drive away from well-known shops and restaurants. Still, the fact that it retains its privacy is the main reason why it commands such a big asking price at $9.95 million.

The Craftsman house was built by Frederick E. Engstrum and it was the only structure in the 12 acres of land where it was erected. The current owner bought the house in the 1980s but it was in such a bad shape that it cost him millions to restore the building to its original splendor. Some modern changes were also made in the kitchen and the wiring of the place. Chang noted that it was not like any other Craftsman houses. "It's not your typical Craftsman," he said. The location was originally picked because of the view; the city skyline is clear below while the Pacific Ocean is visible in the distance.
