'Fifty Shades Darker' Spoilers & Production Updates: New Director Confirmed? Jamie Dornan & Dakota Johnson to Start Filming

"Fifty Shades Darker" is set to begin production now that a new director is already being linked to the project. According to Movie Pilot, director James Foley is being tapped by Universal Pictures to direct the "Fifty Shades of Grey" sequel. The first installment was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, who backed out of the project due to the tensions she had with book author E.L. James.

The publication noted that nothing has been confirmed as of late, but Foley is said to be the frontrunner for the position. The director previously directed 12 episodes of "House of Cards." He also directed "Perfect Stranger" which starred Halle Berry and Bruce Willis.

If Foley will be confirmed as the director of "Fifty Shades Darker," there are speculations that he will also be tapped to direct "Fifty Shades Freed." The confirmation is expected to elicit a slew of mixed reactions from fans who wouldn't think it's a good idea that a man will be directing the sequels.

Meanwhile, immediately after a director has been confirmed, the filming for "Fifty Shades Darker" will already commence. Originally, the filming was pegged to begin sometime in January, but Universal Pictures want Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson to get on board.

Throughout the past couple of weeks, there have been rumors that Dornan is delaying the filming of "Fifty Shades Darker" because he wants to spend more time with his family. The actor recently finished filming for his upcoming movie "Anthropoid."

There are also some speculations that Johnson's boyfriend, Matthew Hitt, is causing delays in the filming of the upcoming movie. According to Youth Health Mag, Johnson wants to spend as much time with Hitt as possible, especially since the two just got back together after a brief split.

"Fifty Shades Darker" is set to hit theaters in the United States on Feb. 10, 2017.
