Sam Mendes transfers Chelsea condo to Kate Winslet

According to the website, the 12 unit building, which was bought for $4.99 million in 2006, lacks the frills associated with pricey celebrity apartments. “It’s one of the few old buildings that is completely renovated yet has retained its old character,” the website quoted Corcoran broker Robby Browne, who has sold other units in the building.

Mendes, who is the director of movies such as American Beauty, Road to Perdition and Revolutionary Road married the Titanic Star in 2003 and soon moved to New York. Winslet divorced Mendes in 2010 during the filming of Revolutionary Road, in which he directed Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Together, Mendes and Winslet, owned an eight bedroom manor house in the Cotswolds and a triplex apartment in Manhattan. However, after announcing her divorce from Mendes, Winslet reportedly wanted to get away from the $6 million Chelsea triplex, which she felt was tainted due to her fights with Mendes, the New York Post reported. "Kate really wants to leave the apartment. She sees it as a house of horrors because of the fights she and Sam had there. She feels it is tainted," a friend of Winslet told the paper.

A few days ago, the Daily Mail reported, that a one million dollar property once owned by the Titanic star was burned to the ground. Winslet bought the property in 2001 when she was married to her first husband, Jim Threapleton, the paper said.
