"Castle" Season 8 will see the return of Nathan Fillion as Rick Castle and Stana Katic as Kate Beckett in the ABC police procedural drama. While several spoilers and hints have been dropped by cast members and producers along the way, a recently released clip showed that Stana Katic is not the only one having some serious career changes in the upcoming season.
The short clip for "Castle" Season 8 premiere episode titled "XY" was posted on Carter Matt, which ultimately revealed that Rick has decided to become a full time private investigator. Beckett sees him and asks him what he's doing and Rick proudly replies, "Welcome to Richard Castle investigations."
The outlet noted that now that Castle's muse has been promoted as the new Captain of the precinct, he no longer has any reason to remain in NYPD. Comments from the site's page are mixed with varying opinions on Rick's choice of becoming a private investigator.
One user named "Annie" wrote: "It makes no sense that he would want to become a full-time PI... I'll tune in because I really do love this show but don't know how long I'll keep watching if PI Castle lasts all season."
Another user named "Buddy," however, thought that Rick's choice was great because it will give him more time to be with Beckett.
While there have been some rumors that Caskett will be headed for a breakup in the upcoming season following the addition of a new character named Hayley (Toks Olagundoye), executive producer Alexi Hawley told EW that there won't be any competition and that Hayley will be there to "create some fun tension."
"Castle" Season 8 premieres on Sept. 21 on ABC.
