Four Ways on how to have a Fake Higher Ceiling

An article from Apartment Therapy reported that following these tricks can make the ceiling look high. In addition, rooms with high ceilings create challenges for sound and light control, as reported in an article from Houzz.

Here are the four steps in making the ceiling looks high, as mentioned in the article from Apartment Therapy.

1.     Paint the ceiling lighter. The article mentioned that using lighter and brighter colors on the wall would open up a space. The color white on ceiling can make the ceiling higher as the color draws our eyes further up the wall. As the article mentioned, another way to make the ceiling is high is to color the wall white until it's just a shade or two lighter than the ceiling to make the wall look endless. Furthermore, an article from Wiki How said that the color white creates a sense of height and expansiveness, and reflects a lot of light that gives a sense of increased height.

2.     Place curtains  on the wall.Another simple design trick in making the ceiling seem high is by hanging the curtains higher all the way to the ceiling. In addition, the article suggested that use similar colors to blend the curtain rods.  Patterned drapes can lead the eye up to give a feeling of increased height, as the article from Houzz said.

3.     Put low hanging pendants. The article advised that the use of a pendant cord in measuring the length between the ceiling and the light to draw attention. Another option is, go with a light source closer to ceiling. Bouncing light off the ceiling creates a visual height, as mentioned in Houzz.

4.     Have a low chair rail. Although it is tricky but getting it right can change the look of the whole room, as the article mentioned. The article said that chair rails usually go 1/3 of the way up a wall and to make it look longer, cheat it a little higher.  The article from Houzz added that low furniture can maximized the height of the room.
