Volvo V40 Special Extended-Wheelbase S60L Sedan To Arrive in the U.S.

Volvo has just confirmed that the next-generation V40 will be available in the United States and in Europe.

According to Car and Driver, Volvo's Senior Vice President Alain Visser mentioned to the newspaper De Telegraaf that the company is designing the next-generation V40 for Europe and the U.S. The V40 will be released in 2017.

The current S60L is already available in China and, later this year, it will be launched in the United States market as well. It may even be available in an extended-wheelbase S60L Sedan. Visser, in a statement to De Telegraaf, stated that, "If there is a need for a V40 with extended wheelbase, we will do that."

Visser also indicated that the V40, like other Volvo models, will be available as a gas-electric hybrid, with a possible diesel-electric hybrid.

Car and Driver also reported that the price for the V60 version starts at $41,925. Given how S60 models ring in $1,600 to $2,000 less than their wagon counterparts, it was expected that the Cross Country will come in right around $40,000 when it goes on sale this summer.

Back in late 2013, Car News China had a report about the then brand new Volvo S60L for China. The car was also featured on the 2013 Guangzhou Auto Show.

The S60L was manufactured in a new Geely-funded Volvo factory in Chengdu in Central China. It was reportedly the first manufactured car in the new factory. Then, after some time, it was followed by the Volvo XC60 SUV.

And now, a Sedan-version of the successful Volvo V40 will most likely be manufactured there as well. The Volvo S60L was launched in the China car market in December 2013, for a starting price of around 220.000 Yuan, as reported by Car News China.

The car offers an 8-centimeter extension in the middle which causes abundant space in the back. It is also powered by a 200hp 2.0 turbo (2.0T), a 241hp 2.0 turbo (T5), or a 300hp 3.0 turbo (T6). Its size is 4,715mm/1,866mm/1,481mm, and it has a wheelbase of 2856mm.
