Netflix 'Daredevil' Season 2 Release Date & Rumors: New Promo Image Hints Gladiator Appearance

Now that Netflix "Daredevil" Season 2 is in production, a new promo image suggests a new villain coming to the show.

According to Movie Web, it has not been confirmed yet if the new villain will be appearing in Season 2. It was earlier reported that two new characters will be added in the upcoming season, and this includes Jon Bernthal as The Punisher and Elodie Yung as Elektra. The speculation about the Gladiator's appearance started when the official Twitter account of the show released a cryptic image that supposedly hinted the appearance of the Marvel comic book character.

Netflix also revealed a photo which featured a circular saw blade with the initials M.P. and the design for Matt Murdock's (Charlie Cox) costume. Matt Gerald, who plays Melvin Potter, was the one who designed the iconic costume Murdock wore during the end of the first season. The cryptic photos reportedly could mean that Potter could follow the story based on the comic books and he may transform into the villainous Gladiator.

Based on the comic book, Gladiator battles Daredevil and wears a thick armor and has weapons that look like circular saw blades. Potter first appeared in Season 1 in the episode titled "Shadows in the Glass." In the episode, he revealed that he was making suits for Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio). In another episode titled Path of the Righteous," fans saw hints of Potter's Gladiator traits after he threw a saw blade to Murdock.

According to Screen Rant, the appearance of the character might just be for one or two episodes. However, even though Elektra and The Punisher may keep Daredevil busy, the Gladiator can still have potential to offer some intense fight sequences, which the show is known for. The website added that although the Gladiator may not be that good in martial arts, he is still as agile as Daredevil and he makes up for what he lacks with his sheer force.

"Daredevil" Season 2 will be aired sometime in 2016.
