'Game of Thrones' Locations: See the Houses and Palaces Used in the Hit TV Series Plus Show-Inspired Castles You Can Rent

With "Game of Thrones (GoT)" Season 6 now in production, several filming locations have already been reported. Here we take a good look at some of the castles and locations used in the popular TV series and see what's inside them. There are also a bunch of show-inspired castles that you can actually rent.

Alcazar de Sevilla (Water Palaces of Dorne)

A royal palace in Seville, Spain, Alcazar de Sevilla [pictured here] was featured in Season 5 of "Game of Thrones" as the Water Gardens of the Kingdom of Dorne, where the Red Viper Oberyn Martell is from and where his brother, Doran Martell, reigns. This is also where Oberyn's daughters, called the Sand Snakes, were first seen in the show.

According to Andalucia.com, Alcazar de Sevilla can be easily mistaken as a Moorish palace, and it was in fact built by some Moorish men for King Pedro the Castile and his mistress. The 1360s structure is home to Mudejar architecture and also features a complex of patios and halls in different architectural styles, some of which are Gothic.

Castle Ward (Winterfell)

Located in County Down, Northern Ireland, Castle Ward [pictured here] is known in "Game of Thrones" as Winterfell, the home of the Starks. According to DiscoverNorthernIreland.com, the property overlooks Strangford Lough and is secured by walls. Inside the 820-acre structure is where the house of the Starks can be found, along with a sunken garden and a haunting woodland, believed to be featured as godswood in the show.

Downhill Beach (Dragonstone)

Situated on the Causeway Coast also in Northern Ireland, Downhill Beach [pictured here] was used as the location for Dragonstone in the TV series. Dragonstone is where Stannis Baratheon and Red Woman Melisandre burned the old gods on the beach. The place doesn't actually have a castle, but there's a temple perched on a 120-foot cliff top, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

Meanwhile, for avid fans who wish to have a taste of a "GoT"-inspired vacation, various castle rentals are available at Home Away, starting from $59 a night. Tripping also offers various castle accommodations for those who wish to experience an extraordinary vacation.
