Want A Clutter-free And Minimal Living Space? Here Are 8 Things You Probably Own Too Many Of

Wonder why you don't have enough space for all your things? Then maybe you have too many of one thing and while it's okay to have multiples of certain things, it's easy to get overboard.

If you wish to embark on a clutter-free lifestyle, you need to realize that there are some things in your house that you could actually get rid of to make space for ones that you really need. Here are some items you need to check and see if you own too many of according to Apartment Therapy:

Sheets

The basic rule is, you should get two sheets for one bed, or three if you are not very keen with doing the laundry. Unless you have kids who wet their bed which requires constant sheet change, there is no reason for you to have one closet compartment full of sheets you don't really use. We all have that favorite sheet that we always end up using, right? So better keep those and donate the rest to the animal shelter. It's quality over quantity, always.

Glasses

Do you really need to use different types of glasses for every beverage? While there are some who might disagree - ahem, wine aficionados - it's really not a big deal nowadays to have to different glasses for water, juice, wine, or martini. If your friends come over, they sure wouldn't call you out for letting them use the same glass for the water and the fruit punch.

Tupperware

Instead of getting special leftover containers for food that are probably going to end up in the bin after you let them for weeks in the fridge to grow molds, why not use ceramics or Pyrex as they can go from oven to table to fridge making it more likely that you'll use up their contents. Or, you can turn any bowl or plate into a container by getting those stretch-to-fit covers. After all, how long until you start losing the tops of those Tupperwares?

Towels

Who uses a new towel every after shower? No one, so there's no reason for you to have 31 towels for every day of the month. The basic rule is use one body, hair, and hand towel for one week and you should have 2 spare ones for when you need to put the used ones in the laundry. Set aside a few large-sized ones to use for a trip to the beach and a spare one for when you have a visitor. The rest, instead of crowding your real estate, could be donated to the animal shelter.

Cleaning/Grooming products

Yes, we are all victims to believing products that could get rid of all kinds of stain or help achieve smooth, shiny hair. We sucker-in to all those marketing propagandas that we begin collecting all sorts of hair, skin, nail, or cleaning products. Instead of just letting them sit in your cupboard way past their expiry, what you can do is streamline your routines to weed out products that you don't really use. When talking about products to clean the house, you can almost get through with just an all-purpose cleaner, a scrub, and a window cleaning product.

Makeup

Well, who isn't guilty of this? Almost any girl has a collection of lipsticks that could double as the color wheel. Foundations, mascaras, liquid liners, makeup sponges, they all go off. So unless you want to use bacteria-laden and expired products on your skin, get rid of any makeup that you haven't used in a year. Know your regular makeup look or have a professional walk you through what you just need in your makeup kit.

Books

More often than not, your collection of books - your favorite children's book, first editions, and romance books - are there sitting in a corner collecting dust. You don't have to get rid of the ones you're sure you want to keep, but the rest can be put to good use if you would donate them to your local library or hospital. Or, why not give your friend a book you know they would enjoy? And if you can't help yourself to buying new novels, consider making the switch to reading books on your iPad, iPhone, or Kindle.

Office Supplies

You only need one or two pens that actually write, not a whole box with some of them with inks already drying up. How about those notepads and notebooks? Unless you really need them on a regular basis and or need an abundant supply of them at all times, keep your stash of school supplies to a minimum.
