'Extant' TV Show Season 2: Series to Feature New Cast & Overall Style Change

Despite the good reception of "Extant" Season 1, producers have decided to change the overall style of the TV show and bring in new cast members for Season 2. According to a report from Master Herald, producers of the show opted for a different style so as to attract a larger audience. The cast of the show will also be a bit different as only three from the original seven full-time cast will be retained in Season 2.

The three original members that will still be in the new season are Halle Berry as Molly Woods, Pierce Gagnon as Ethan, her robotic son, and Grace Gummer as Julie Gelineau, a partially robotic scientist. The male lead played by Goran Visnjic will be replaced by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

According to the report, there are big changes happening in the TV show. For one, the producers have dropped the subplots, hinting that its style would be a big deviation from Season 1. The slower-paced story telling in the last season has also been replaced with more action-packed scenes.

In Season 1, Molly is an astronaut, a scientist and a mother. Season 2 of "Extant" will reportedly show a different Molly, as seen in the trailer on YouTube. Molly will supposedly play an important role in the fate of the human race.

The new season is also expected to bring some serious changes to its structure and style, which might also include changes in Molly whose character becomes rogue in Season 2. The report added that it is possible that Molly's new identity will actually turn out to be more likable and attract more discussions among fans.

The changes, according to the report, could have been motivated by many factors, but the obvious reason, it said, is the TV show's ratings, which could have been better. "Extant" has been renewed for Season 2, as reported by CBS. It is set to return in summer 2015.
