A report from Daily Mail mentioned that Martha Stewart invited Architectural Digest to her Maine estate to show the magazine the amenities and features of her home to the public.
The article in Architectural Digest mentioned that the estate was completed in 1925 for the visionary automotive executive Edsel Ford by architect Duncan Candler. The broad-shouldered house sits high on a hill that overlooks Seal Harbor.
Daily Mail added that the estate is called "Skylands." The article also mentioned that Ford built the house as a summer retreat for his family and many of the original furnishings and family photos are still in the home, which Martha has owned since 1997.
The main house having 12 bedrooms, a floral arrangement room and a Great Hall. Also, there are numerous outbuildings throughout the grounds which are, like Maine, a mix of rocky outcrops and lush wooded areas, with refection pools and natural stone paved patios.
The article described the property as having an indoor squash court, a mechanics' garage, a greenhouse, a stable and a 200-seat Catholic church. Also, Martha added her own personal touches such as an oversized cherry blossom bonsai garden as well as ornamental Victorian papier-mâché chairs glistening with mother-of-pearl located in the living room.
Stewart mentioned in the article of Architectural Digest that she looks at herself as the caretaker of an American treasure. She also revealed that she spends time at Skylands during July, August and long weekends throughout the year.
She also added, as mentioned in Daily Mail, "I didn't have to buy a plate, although I've certainly added my fair share." As a caretaker, the star has restored the vintage and numerous Frigidaire refrigerators that allow her to cater for hundreds of guests during her parties held in the summer months.
