History as they call it has been laid out for women. As it seems, rent cost was a struggle that has been occurring ever since the beginning of rental mortgage and housing projects. According to parliament.co.uk, "In the year 1915, rent strikes were led by Mary Barbour and her neighbors demanding for a better and affordable housing deals". While CNN stated that, "Millions of women are struggling on the brink of poverty and the wage gap is all too real" which clearly shows the current struggles of women to live beyond their means."
Women, despite their capabilities, have to struggle with keeping financial needs at bay. The wage gap affects the lives of women today, according to a recent study by the National Women's Law Center. The study also quoted the U.S. Census Bureau and Current Population Survey stating that, "Women in the U.S. who work full time, year round are typically paid only 78 cents for every dollar paid to their male counterparts." How can women then thrive while struggling to meet rental needs? Strategies are needed by women in the society to cope with the low wage and the high rental fees, and ensure their better future.
Firstly, women need to use their wits to save on rental fees. One method that the women can implement their wits are to find bigger houses that allows cost sharing of expenses. Secondly, be a lodger instead of a being a full-pledge tenant. According to a report from the mirror.co.uk, "We're increasingly seeing young professionals who have managed to get on the property ladder choosing to rent out their spare rooms to make ends meet."
Other options that can be utilized include opting to rent houses owned by co-operatives that offer better rental prices and tenancy deals. Some other options for low rent cost include being house guardians, such as living on abandoned or way cheaper properties to lower the rental cost. It might not be the best option compared to to those mentioned above but it is an alternative solution that women can choose if there isn't any choices left.
Finding better housing at lesser cost is indeed a struggle but women can always find ways to bridge the gap and make their lives better. In order to overcome the challenges of high housing fees, women need to soar above the mediocrities, use their wits, skills, and experiences to find better solutions to be free from the persistent burden of high rental cost.
