'Clash of Clans' Update: Game Developer Supercell Alters Algorithm to Penalize Trophy Dumping to Ensure Fair Play

Supercell, the developer of mobile game "Clash of Clans," has altered the game's algorithm to resolve the problem of "trophy dumping" in the game. By altering the game's algorithm, the playing field will now be even, a report from Master Herald stated.

This developed after some gamers were reportedly dumping trophies in order to stage more attacks, especially in the lower level in the "Clash of Clans" platform. The report noted that dumping of trophies will likely give due advantage to some players. With the change in algorithm, the dumping of trophies will now reportedly be penalized or prevented.

Markika, an alleged employee of Supercell, as cited by the same website, said that one of the goals of the game was to motivate and give additional incentives to all the players who reportedly attack their opponents within their own skill levels and pace.

"It is a constant goal of ours to better motivate and incentivize players to attack opponents at their level of skill and progress. League Bonuses and Town Hall loot penalties have helped in this regard, but to improve the situation further still, we've gone straight to the multiplayer matchmaking algorithms. Now, matchmaking will pay special attention to the Town Hall level of a player going to attack, and will look for targets that are at a similar Trophy count as well as at a similar Town Hall level," Markika said.

In a related report from Inquisitir, it further explains that players who, for instance, perform a "trophy dump" in a Town Hall level 9 in the "Clash of Clans" game will now have a hard time looking for an easy opponent to beat. The close scenario that will happen is that these players will be matched with others in the same level 9 Town Hall. A player at Town Hall level 9 in the Bronze league is very likely to find opponents at Town Hall levels 8 to 10 who are also in the Bronze league, the report noted.
