Highland Castle In Upstate New York Fit For A King Up For $12 Million

George RR Martin fans have the chance to live as a Lannister or Barratheon as castles are starting to be listed in the upstate New York area. Realtor said that for around $12 million dollars, you can be the king of your own castle. One in particular is the Highlands Castle in Bolton Landing, New York. The castle that is made out of 800 tons of stone showcases a secret passageway, a secret staircase, turrets, balconies, and hand carved knights standing as guards in the great room. This spectacular property is listed at a king's price range at $12.8 million.

The only downside of the king's dwelling is the absence of moat or drawbridge; it is replaced by a 2,000 foot long driveway that leads right into the castle's main entrance that is overseen by life-size lion statues.  The rooms also offer unobstructed views of Lake George and the Adironback Mountains.

"Game of Thrones" fans will really feel like a king in the private 8 acres that is next to public lands prohibited for any construction.

The castle is a product of the promise by a dedicated dad to his then 3-year-old. John Lavender, in 1978, promised his son that one day he will build a castle for him. Although it is somewhat a dream for anyone to build a castle, Lavender became successful with his fundraising venture and eventually got the funds to build his promise to his son in 1984.

CNN reported on the property and aside from complementing Realtor, the news agency confirmed that Lavender is the driving force of the entire construction. He was also the quarterback of the construction and made sure that everything is according to his plan.

The process included the installation of stained glass doors, a 25 foot high wood beam ceilings, and a 21- floor-to-ceiling windows to make sure that the outstanding view of the mountain is visible inside the king's dwelling.
