‘Power Rangers’ Movie Reboot Updates: Director Dean Israelite Teases Plot

"Power Rangers" movie reboot director Dean Israelite recently dished on the plot and cast of the upcoming movie. According to him, the spinoff will be both mature and playful.

In an interview with IGN, Israelite also talked about the script of "Power Rangers" and said that he was really surprised the first time he read the contents. According to him, the story of the upcoming movie is contemporary, fun and buoyant.

"It had this wonderful character that's essential to going on a fantastic adventure. I was instantly drawn to it," he added in reference to the script.

Meanwhile, the script, which was penned by "X-Men: First Class" writers Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller, is said to tackle certain plot points from the original series, and Israelite's vision for the upcoming reboot can definitely bring it to life, KPopStarz noted.

"It needs to be completely playful and it needs to be really fun and funny. But like 'Project Almanac,' it's going to feel very grounded at the same time and very contemporary and have a real edge to it, and a real gut to it," he said.

The "Power Rangers" movie reboot will focus on the lives of a group of ordinary teenagers who were given supernatural powers to defend the Earth from a natural force. The original show, which aired on television, was released in 1993. It was eventually adapted for the big screen in 1995 with the film "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers." In 1997, a sequel titled "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie" was then released, Screen Rant noted.

According to Israelite, the filming of "Power Rangers" is set to commence soon and he said he is hopeful that details about their filming will be released soon for the sake of the fans. "Power Rangers" is slated for release in the U.S. this coming Jan. 13, 2017.
