‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Movie Sequel Rumors: E.L. James’ New Novel To Not Star Jamie Dornan, Dakota Johnson Due To Contract Issues?

"Fifty Shades of Grey" author E.L. James recently confirmed the upcoming release of her newest novel titled "Grey." According to James, "Grey" will chronicle the story of Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson), as told from the point of view of the former.

Following James' confirmation, fans of the "Fifty Shades" franchise speculated that a film adaptation for the big screen may also be released by Universal Pictures. Although this report has not yet been confirmed, there are rumors that Dornan and Johnson will no longer reprise their roles, KPopStarz reported.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, there's a huge possibility that Dornan and Johnson will no longer return to the franchise for the release of "Grey" because their contracts only included "Fifty Shades Darker" and "Fifty Shades Freed." Additionally, the same publication noted that both actors were not aware that James will be releasing the novel this coming June 18.

Meanwhile, there have also been reports in the past that Dornan and Johnson asked for hefty raises after they found out that "Fifty Shades of Grey" became a box office hit. However, since their contracts already stated the amount of money they were supposed to receive, their request was not granted. This report heightened speculations that after "Fifty Shades Freed," both actors will no longer appear in "Grey," unless they get the raise that they believe they deserve.

Fans are reportedly not happy with this report because for them, the role of Christian Grey only belongs to Dornan. As such, it would be quite difficult to see a new Christian if "Grey" will really be adapted for the big screen, KPopStarz reported.

"Fifty Shades Darker" is slated for release in the U.S. on Feb. 10, 2017. "Fifty Shades Freed" is slated for release on Feb. 9, 2018.
